ArmInfo.Hambik Sasunyan, sentenced for lifetime imprisonment for shooting down Kemal Arikan, the Turkish Consul General in LA, has been granted a pardon by Californian Authorities after 34 years and 11 months of imprisonment, Dailysabah.com. states.
According to the media, the Pardon granting. Commission has rejected t Sasunyan's mercy appeal twice - in 2006 and 2010. Sasunyan was the founder of the Fighters for Justice in Respect to Armenian Genocide organization. On January 28, 1982 at 9:40 AM he shot down Kemal Arkan, the Turkishsh Consul General in this car, while stopped under the red signal on the crossroad of Wilshire and Comstock streets in Los Angeles. During the court trial Sasunyan motivated his action as the act of revenge to Turks for the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923. Sasunyan was sentenced for a lifetime imprisonment without a right to submit a mercy appeal.
