ArmInfo. The international community should respond to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's statement about his intention to "retrieve" the territory of the Republic of Armenia, Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov told ArmInfo's correspondent.
"The silence of the international community regarding Aliyev's bellicose remarks on Nagorno-Karabakh has resulted in the fact that he is already setting sights on the territory of a sovereign country, a UN member. If this continues, Aliyev will start laying down territorial claims against Iran and probably other neighbors as well. The appetite comes with eating," Sharmazanov said.
"During the latest meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko, Aliyev stated that the actual founder of Azerbaijan was his father Heydar Aliyev. The statement of Aliyev Jr. means that Azerbaijan is only a few dozens years old. In that case, how can it claim for Yerevan, which is 2798 years old? So, Aliyev is self-contradictory," Sharmazanov said, advising the Azeri president to study the books by ancient Greek and ancient Roman historians to avoid such ridiculous situations.
Given the Azerbaijani leadership's addition to expensive cars, Sharmazanov also recommended Aliyev to familiarize himself with the history of creation of Audi and Mercedes-Benz cars. "I would like to point out that Mercedes-Benz is 2 years older than Azerbaijan and Audi is 9 years older than Azerbaijan," he said.
Sharmazanov also stressed that such statements of the Azeri leadership are due to Baku's nervous reaction to the pressure exerted on Azerbaijan in the Karabakh peace process. "By the way, Aliyev himself has recently confessed it," Sharmazanov added.
To note, on December 4, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated an intention to "retrieve" the territory of the Republic of Armenia. 'Today, we do not claim the land of the modern Republic of Armenia. We do not intend to return by military means Yerevan, or Meghri, Goris. But I'm sure that time will come, and we, Azerbaijanis, will return to all our historic lands'.
