ArmInfo. The Council of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) held today an enlarged session and issued a statement urging PAP ex-leader Gagik Tsarukyan to consider return to mainstream politics.
The statement reads, "Given the numerous statements of the republic's citizens and taking into account the need for wide consolidation of public to resolve the topical foreign and domestic problems, which can be done by Gagik Tsarukyan, who enjoys public confidence and affection, on behalf of dozens of thousands of Armenian citizens, the PAP Council calls on Tsarukyan to consider the issue of his return to mainstream politics to settle the specified problems".
Today thousands of PAP members gathered near Tsarukyan's house to request him to return to mainstream politics. Two hours later Tsarukyan told them that he will announce his decision within the next few days. He gave the same answer to the PAP Council members, who also came up to Tsarukyan's house and read out the statement adopted during the session.
Earlier, however, Tsarukyan ruled out any possible return to politics. Meanwhile, ArmInfo previously reported, citing the sources close to the presidential administration, that Tsarukyan and President Serzh Sargsyan had reached an agreement on Tsarukyan's return to mainstream politics and joining the coalition with the ruling Republican Party of Armenia after the parliamentary elections in April 2017.
Today's session of the PAP Council covered issues related to the party's possible joining to a pre-electoral bloc and possible names to appear on the party list. The party has announced nothing about the decisions adopted at the session, but it has noted that the PAP leadership will shortly meet with the voters in the provinces.
