ArmInfo. Iran's interest in Armenia does not state a capsulation of alliance. Also the August Presidential summit in Baku is not an evidence of "Eurasian triangle" formulation, Sergey Markedonov, well known Russian expert, shared his opinion to ArmInfo. "For today both in Caucasus and Middle East region the priorities are not the alliances, but the situation- based an selective cooperation. From this point of view Tehran is interested in Armenia, as well as in Azerbaijan and Georgia. And those, who will be able to adjust players' interests to own position, will heva maximum benefits," he mentioned.
In this context the expert states the importance of Hassan Rouhani's visit to Armenia, mentioning that having occupied the post of the President, he didn't visit Armenia, but visited Baku twice. Markedonov marked the military-political contexts of those visits. First visit was congruent to shooting down the Armenian helicopter, and the Summit 2016 took place several months after April combat operation.
Mentioning, that Iran didn't take Armenia's side, the expert accentuates that this turned the situation not for Yerevan's benefits. The foreign policy of Iran is not so simple, as it may seem at first look.
"In the Caucasus policy Tehran accentuates the intention to rule out any intervening of USA and its allies. Iran is open for the cooperation with Caucasus countries and with Russia and Turkey in "33" format, preferring not to make any final choice between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Gerorgia and Russia,"Markedonov says.
