ArmInfo. Russia looks forward to the day when Armenia applies to the CSTO for help, former head of National Security Service of Armenia, analyst David Shahnazaryan expressed this opinion at the round table held on November 8 in Armenian Institute of International Relations and Security Affairs (AIISA).
"Deployment of Russian "peacekeepers" in Nagorno-Karabakh is Moscow's long-nurtured dream. In this light we should thank God that the Armenian authorities have not applied for this "help" till today, especially in the days of April war. I hope that we would not have to apply for it in the future if Russia does not force us", he noted.
The analyst considers that the fact of Armenia's membership in the EEU limits Armenia's sovereignty, noting that even supporters of the country's membership in the organization only shrug their shoulders talking about its efficiency today.
Shahnazaryan expressed assurance that Armenia's membership in the CSTO is just a component of Armenian-Russian relations having nothing in common with the remaining countries-members of this organization. According to him, today Moscow actively tries to involve the countries, members of the organization in its own confrontation with the West, however it has not reached success in these attempts yet.
"As for the Collective Security Strategy till 2025 adopted recently in Yerevan several of its provisions first and foremost pose threat for the countries of the CSTO as they include Russia's authority to involve certain events in these countries", Shahnazaryan summarized.
