ArmInfo. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan admitted today in parliament that the session of EEU Intergovernmental Council scheduled for April 7-8 in Armenia right after the April war in Karabakh was postponed for political reasons.
"EEU is of course an economic organization but the issues discussed within it have political subtext and Armenia does not agree to this. And postponing the session of EEU Intergovernmental Council in Yerevan should be considered in this light. There were political reasons for that and we admit this fact", Kocharyan stated.
To note, earlier Yerevan did not admit that the session was postponed for political reasons and explained it with technical problems.
However, according to mass media the session was postponed because of the pressure exerted by Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev, who considered that holding session in Yerevan might be perceived as a sign of sympathy to the Armenian side after the April war.
The session was held in Moscow. However, later, on July 26, another session was held in Yerevan also.
