ArmInfo. Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan has applied to the Constitutional Court of Armenia to consider the compliance of administrative detentions with the requirements of the Armenian Constitution.
The press office of the Ombudsman's Office has told ArmInfo that the urgency of the problems mentioned in the statement is mostly explained by the permanent violation of human rights in the course of legal practices.
"For instance, during the incident of the seizure of a police compound in Yerevan, some cases of police's violation of human rights were registered. The cases mostly concerned the police's reluctance to immediately inform the detainees of the detention reasons, the police's attempts to prevent attorneys from entering the police station, etc. That being said, the Ombudsman's statement stressed the need for comprehensive regulation of the institutions of administrative detentions and the need to satisfy the minimum requirements of human rights," the Office says.
The Ombudsman's statement points out the need to ensure immediate notification of the detention reasons and notification of the detention, to ensure the right to have an attorney and the right to undergo medical examination, as well as the right to dispute the decision on detention.
