ArmInfo. Maya Chrelashvili, the lawyer of one of the five citizens of Georgia that were arrested over the recent attempt of terror attack on the Russian-Armenian gas pipeline told journalists her client Beka Bekauri has confessed saying he plotted the terror attack as he opposes Russia's policy.
Commenting on the media reports on possible ties of Bekauri with the Wahhabi, the lawyer said her client denies any ties. At the same time, the lawyer does not deny the existence of her client's pictures in social media under various flags, including the flag of ISIS. The State Security Service of Georgia has already disclaimed the lawyer's reports that in the materials of the case there are data testifying to the ties of the suspects with the Wahhabi, according to Georgian Online.
To recall, a terror attack on Russia-Armenia gas pipeline was thwarted in Georgia on August 20. Seven people have been detained, walking officer of Poti town Levan Mamporia among them. Chairman of the State Security Service of Georgia stated at a briefing on August 22 that the detainees were planning to explode the section of the Russian-Armenian gas pipeline passing through territory of Saguramo village, Georgia Online informs. Five citizens of Georgia were detained. Besides, walking officer Levan M. was detained for abuse of office and citizen Irakli B. was detained for failing to report a crime. According to Georgian State Security Service one of the detainees had made frequent visits to Ukraine however there is no information whether this group was supervised from that country.
Earlier on Tuesday, Deputy Speaker of Georgian Parliament Manana Kobakhidze said Georgia's former president might be involved in organization of terror attack on Russia-Armenia gas pipeline. According to Kobakhidze attack on the gas pipeline and following destabilization would be of benefit to Saakashvili and his "United National Movement" party considering the upcoming elections to parliament. Meanwhile, former Defense Minister of Georgia Tina Khidasheli considers inappropriate indication made by Georgia's Service of State Security that organization of terror attack in Georgia is somehow linked to Ukraine. Saakashvili's supporters think that "circulating Ukrainian theme" is a stroke of policy by the running Georgian authorities on the threshold of upcoming parliamentary elections.
