ArmInfo. Union of Political Analysts of Armenia (UPAA) has disseminated a statement wherein it demands an immediate release of Andrias Ghukasyan, a member of the Union.
"Ghukasyan's arrest and keeping in custody is nothing but a regular attempt of the ruling regime to introduce the practice of pressure on oppositionists. We urge the public and international human rights organizations to support Ghukasyan and other political prisoners, the victims of Serzh Sargsyan's regime," the Union says in the statement.
Ghukasyan like many other activists was arrested during the recent events in Yerevan, when Sasna Tsrer group seized a police compound demanding among others the resignation of the president. Andrias Ghukasyan started his hunger strike on August 1 and continues it for
19 days already. He is charged with Article 225.1 (organization of mass unrest) of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
"I am a political prisoner and I demand the people to establish constitutional order in Armenia and restore justice with all possible methods," Ghukasyan posted on Facebook.
