Varuzhan Avetisyan blames Russia for current situation

Taking advantage of the fact that the United States "is busy" with domestic political issues, particularly, with the forthcoming presidential elections, Russia has decided to intensify its role in the Minsk process of the Karabakh conflict settlement and to form favorable trends for itself, Varuzhan Avetisyan, imprisoned member of the disarmed Sasna Tsrer (Daredevils of Sassoon) group, which seized the Patrol Guard Service Regiment territory on July 17, says in a letter.

He states that Moscow's plans to alienate Karabakh from Armenia and finally turn the latter into Russia's province have been disrupted after the "liberation" movement initiated by Sasna Tsrer. He says that in order to carry out his plans in the region, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited "his henchman" Serzh Sargsyan to Moscow. 

Avetisyan thinks the threat of war is growing in the region. "In the current situation, Serzh Sargsyan's resignation is an imperative for saving the Armenian identity and statehood," he says. In this light, he urges the people to join efforts to make Sargsyan resign, form a government of national confidence, and prevent any attempts to alienate Artsakh from Armenia.      

On August 8, Avetisyan's teammate Alec Yenikomshian, who was set free on Monday, said that it is necessary to push the demand about Serzh Sargsyan's resignation into insignificance at least temporarily in order to find a favorable way out of the current situation. He added that Zhirayr Sefilyan himself, the arrested leader of the Sasna Tsrer group, was willing to quit the demand about Sargsyan's resignation and to discuss with him the topical problems in the country if they reached a consensus during the meeting.
