Armenia's Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan has applied to the Special Investigation Service of Armenia related to the facts of using force against the detained citizens.
The press-service of Ombudsman's Office has told ArmInfo that all the facts of violation registered during the detention of citizens have been studied in details. The information spread in mass media that the law enforcers have showed abusive treatment and used force against participants of the demonstration have also been considered.
"Requests were sent to the Police of Armenia for checking the information of unreasoned detention of citizens. Requests were sent to the Special Investigation Service of Armenia to initiate procedures prescribed by the Criminal Code related to all those messages containing clear signals of crimes", the statement of the Ombudsman's Office reads. According to it information received from activists David Sanasaryan, Vaghinak Shushanyan and others was also included in the requests.
Earlier the Office of Ombudsman informed that as of 2:30 am July 18 as a result of work with the police 50 detainees were set free, David Sanasaryan, Andrias Ghukasyan and Shahen Harutyunyan among them. To recall, on July 18 evening, civil activists held a protest action in Liberty Square, announcing their intention to make their way to the police building in Erebuni in order to prevent force settlement of the situation. The police organized a human chain to prevent them from doing it. This resulted in clashes between the law enforcers and the demonstrators.
