The opening of the motor transport communication among Russia, Georgia and Armenia will become possible no earlier than July 20, the Northern Caucasus Federal Center of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reports.
The source says that on July 20 the Georgian Military Road will remain closed. The citizens are recommended to use alternative routes.
There is a life support station near the Upper Lars checkpoint, where the citizens are provided with food and other essentials.
Earlier it was reported that the Kazbegi-Upper Lars checkpoint would be opened on July 5. However, the opening of the checkpoint was postponed due to the heavy rain. The Georgian Transport Ministry reports that the highway will remain closed as long as there is a threat of a landslide and a mudflow.
To recall, on June 23 Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars road was closed because of a mudflow. The only overland road linking Armenia to Russia lies through the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian border.
