The criminal prosecution against Ara Budaghyan has been stopped in the absence of crime components, according to Budaghyan's lawyer Hayk Alumyan.
Nevertheless, under the criminal case over the attack on Syunik province governor Suren Khachatryan, Budaghyan had to spend about a year in prison.
To recall, on May 20, 2015, as many as 13 shots were fired towards the car of Syunik governor Surik Khachatryan on the Kapan-Goris road. No harm came to the governor and his driver though 10 bullets were shot in their direction breaking the wind and side windows. A criminal case on attempted assassination and illegal keeping of weapons was instituted. As many as 30 people were interrogated.
To remind, this is not the first criminal incident with Syunik governor Suren Khachatryan's name involved. Earlier, shootouts in front of Syunik Governor's house killed former candidate for Goris mayor Avo Budaghyan and wounded his brother Artak Budaghyan (who was in a grave situation for a long period), a commander at a military unit in NKR. There was another wounded, Nikolay Abrahamyan, a relative and bodyguard of Governor S. Khachartyan. Syunik Governor Suren Khachatryan's son, Tigran Khachatryan was arrested over the case. However, the investigation found him not guilty and the case was dismissed.
