Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Jan Hamacek implicitly rejected Czech president's proposal to adopt Armenian Genocide by the Czech parliamentarians.
"I hold an opinion that historians and by no means politicians should make statements on historical events", he wrote on his Twitter page.
Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek also made a similar statement. He particularly said after today's government session that he is sure that killings of million of Armenians are extremely tragic and horrible event with awful consequences. However he thinks that independent historians should assess who bears responsibility. The Czech Republic has very good relations with Ankara and tries to hold dialog with Turkey on the same basis, he added.
Czech President Milos Zeman today started his visit to Yerevan by visiting Armenian Genocide Museum; he laid flowers to the monument of victims of Genocide and planted a tree on the territory of the museum. After this he had a joint news conference with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan. During the conference he stated that he seeks to suggest his country's parliament to follow the German Bundestag's example and recognize the Armenian Genocide.
