Spokesman of Artakh President David Babayan refuted the accusations that the authorities are involved in beating of National Rebirth Party leader Hayk Khanumyan, he informed ArmInfo's correspondent about this.
"Regretfully I know Khanumyan quite well and his behavior would one day have such consequences as he provokes society all the time, insults his colleagues and has been involved in such incidents for many times", he noted. At the same time Babayan thinks that this incident is a result of his personal characteristic rather than political views.
Accusations of the authorities are most likely a political manipulation. When the results of the investigation are not known yet how can one make such statement?" he noted. At the same time Babayan added that NKR authorities realize the seriousness of the situation and it would be illogical to take such a step, understanding who would be suspected first of all.
To note, MP of the National Assembly, Leader of National Rebirth Party and supporter of Nagorno Karabakh's former Defense Minister Samvel Babayan was hospitalized after being beaten in the morning today. Member of National Rebirth party Vladimir Dolukhanyan stated in a talk with journalists that Khanumyan was beaten for his political views and particularly for participating in a protest, during which the protesters demanded to appoint Samvel Babayan NKR Defense Minister.
To note on June 5 Samvel Babayan's supporters organized a demonstration in Stepanakert and demanded meeting with President of Nagrono Karabakh Bako Sahakyan and Babayan's appointment as Nagorno Karabakh Defense Minister. According to them the authorities and military leadership are not able to perform their actions. Bako Sahakyan refused to receive Babayan's supporters, after which they have declared about establishment of an initiative group for appointing the general as minister of defense and are planning to hold an act of protest. Work on organizing a large protest is being held. An office for the initiative group was rent in Stepanakert", Chairman of the National Rebirth Party, MP Hayk Khanumyan stated. At the same time he did not informed about the date and time of the protest.
