Assyrian world community is concerned over military aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh initiated by Azerbaijan.
According to the information received by ArmInfo, the authors of the statement mention that these actions are taking place at the 100th Anniversary of the mass massacres of Armenians, Assyrians and Pontian Greeks in the Ottoman Empire (Turkey). "Today Ankara continues its aggressive policy and is directly involved in unleashing of civil war as in neighboring Syria, which affected tens of thousands of Assyrians as well as in resumption of military actions in Nagorno-Karabakh. It also successfully manipulates European Union in artificially created refugee crisis, supporting by this the extremists and terrorists in Iraq and Syria. We condemn violation of ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh, which caused casualties including among civilians", reads the statement. The Assyrian community stresses that the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic with a capital in Stepanakert is a historical Armenian territory and the evidence of this is existence of more than 500 Armenian churches, monasteries and other historical monuments, which testify to more than 4000-year history of Armenians' presence on this territory. "We call for the sides and the international community to stop military actions, put end to Turkey's harsh provocations and involvement into internal affairs of neighboring countries and settle the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan in a peaceful and diplomatic way, taking into account Nagorno-Karabakh Republic's people will for self- determination", the statement reads.
