The planned visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to Baku is becoming especially topical in the light of the ongoing processes in the Karabakh conflict zone, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at today's briefing in Moscow.
"During his visit to Baku, Lavrov will by all means hold a bilateral meeting with his Azerbaijan counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov to discuss the escalation and the efforts to ease the tension. Lavrov is also going to visit Yerevan on April 21-22," Zakharova said.
She recalled that Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will pay a visit to Yerevan and Baku and will also discuss this issue.
"On the sidelines of the CIS Ministerial Meeting in Moscow on April 8, Lavrov will meet with his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandian. We hope Russia's efforts will contribute to long- term peace in the region and will return the peace process to its natural course," she said.
