The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has published a Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict Situation Report. On 2 April, large-scale ceasefire violations took place along the Line of Contact in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, leading to at least 33 fatalities, the report says.
"Heavy fighting erupted between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces on 2 April along the southern, southeastern and northeastern parts of the Line of Contact in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. The fighting was most prominent near the villages of Agdere (Martakert), Khojavend (Martouni) and Hadrut (Hadrout), where in total 14,400 people live. The two Governments report that the fighting is the largest since the ceasefire agreement from 1994. Official sources from Armenia and Azerbaijan state that at least 30 soldiers and 3 civilians have died as a result of the fighting. The number of injured persons, both civilian and military, is yet to be confirmed by official sources. Unofficial sources estimated this number to be more than 200," the report says.
The report also say that there are no indications of immediate humanitarian needs. "The Government of Azerbaijan has communicated that there is no internal displacement in the territory of Azerbaijan, while on the Armenian side some 50 persons requested temporary shelter in Yerevan. Both Governments have declared that they do not need international humanitarian assistance," it notes.
To note, on April 2 night, the Azerbaijani army attacked the positions of the NKR Defense Army along the entire line of contact, using artillery, armored vehicles and air force. The adversary targeted also the populated areas and civil facilities. Fierce battles are still going on along the line of contact. The situation remains critically tense.
