During their today's meeting the presidents of Armenia and Russia, Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, will be discussing Yerevan's possible involvement in the Russian-Turkish conflict, Stepan Safaryan, the head of the Armenian Institute for International Security, told reporters, on March 10.
He pointed at the recent military-buildup of Russia in Armenia. In addition, the expert addressed the Russian military expert Alexander Khramchikhin's article "Outpost with Questions" published in the "Military-industrial courier" Russian newspaper. Safaryan thinks the given article contains certain messages to the Armenian side. "By this article, Russia hints that Yerevan should agree to become an arena for the military actions against Turkey, otherwise Armenia will be left alone against the Turkish- Azerbaijani tandem in the Karabakh conflict," he said. Safaryan sees no direct threat from Turkey, but Ankara will use Baku to escalate the Karabakh conflict, if Yerevan openly supports Moscow.
The Armenian expert is sure that Moscow has set specific date for its operations. "The processes against Turkey will be launched in summer. Before that, Russia will try to persuade or force Armenia to act within its interests," he said.
To recap, Alexander Khramchikhin, the deputy head of the Institute of Political and Military Analysis, published his article "Outpost with Questions" in the Russian military courier newspaper. The expert dwelled upon the military capacity of Armenia's armed forces, the weapons on the balance of the Armenian troops and at the 102nd Russian military base in Armenia, as well as the potential of Armenia's armed forces in case of military actions.
Presidents of Russia and Armenia, Vladimir Putin and Serzh Sargsyan, will meet today in Moscow to discussed among others the Karabakh conflict.
