On the occasion of the Defender of the Fatherland Day on Feb 23, the representatives of the Russian Embassy in Armenia laid flowers and wreaths at the Eternal Flame near the Mother Armenia Monument in the Victory Park in Yerevan.
The representatives of the administration of the Defense Attache at the Russian Embassy in Armenia, as well as the commander of the 102nd Russian military base in Armenia, Major-General Vladimir Ustinov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Yuri Khachaturov, representatives of the Union of Soviet Officers, Union of the Veterans of the Great Patriotic War, Union of the Veterans of Armenia took part in the event.
"The Soviet Army and Navy Day is a very important holiday for us and we traditionally call it Defender of the Fatherland Day. We are all defenders of the Fatherland. Our only wish is to see the region peaceful and safe and to see our servicemen safe and sound," Simon Yesayan, Head of the Union of Veterans of Armenia, told an ArmInfo correspondent. He added that on February 23 Armenia marks this remarkable day together with Russia.
