Zhirayr Sefilyan, member of the Founding Parliament, leader of the New Armenia movement, veteran of the Artsakh war, calls on retired colonel Volodya Avetisyan to stop the hunger strike. To note Avetisyan started the hunger strike on October 30.
"I urge you to stop the hunger strike because there is a lot to be done for liberation and prosperity of our country. I also ask you to give my request to those who have gone on termless hunger strike together with you," Sefilyan says in the statement sent to ArmInfo.
"The regime that usurped the power has imprisoned you to prevent you from using your capacities and image to liberate Armenia. You have chosen an extreme method - hunger strike - to fight the injustice. But the incumbent government is immoral and, consequently, you won't achieve tangible results in your fight and will injure your health," stressed Sefilyan. In this context, he notes that the movement is going to hold a rally in Liberty Square on 1 December, at 6 pm to decide how Serzh Sargsyan's regime will be removed and how new Armenia will be built.
To note, Artsakh war veteran, retired colonel Volodya Avetisyan, who has been sentenced for 6 years in jail under Article 178.2.2 of the Armenian Criminal Code (grand fraud), started a hunger strike at Vardashen penitentiary on October 30 following the independent commission's decision to reject for the second time the petition on premature release.
