U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills addressed the meeting of the Anti-Trafficking Council Thursday saying Armenia can be a model for other countries when it comes to fighting trafficking in persons.
According to the Armenian Government press-office, the meeting under chairmanship of Vache Gabrielyan, Deputy Prime Minister, brought together the government members, representatives of the international and local public organizations. Vahram Kazhonyan, the head of the group for the fight against trafficking in persons, presented the measures taken in the first half of the year.
It was announced at the meeting that the program to combat trafficking in persons for 2016-2018 will be submitted to discussions shortly. Kazhoyan said Armenia is the only country in the region to be listed in the first group of the countries in U.S. Department's corresponding report for the third year in succession. Armenia's successes in the field were reflected also in the annual report of the CoE Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA).
