The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) does not consider the New Armenia Front's statements about the launch of the power shift process on December 1 to be dangerous, RPA faction member Karine Achemyan has told ArmInfo.
She thinks the Front's threats are not realistic because the Front lacks a topical agenda and has numerous discrepancies among its members. "Several people from the Front use all occasions to raise the issue of the power shift, however, at the moment the issue of changes in the governance system is more topical," she says.
Achemyan also thinks that the opponents of the constitutional reforms lack a sufficient number of supporters. "I do not think December 1 will see any shocks. There are no reasons for that. But some people from the Front may resort to provocations," the MP says. She notes that the RPA will do its best to prevent any provocations and avoid serious consequences.
To note, on October 21 Zhirayr Sefilyan, the coordinator of the New Armenia Front, said that the Front will launch the process of power shift on December 1. He noted that the movement will not retreat and will fight till the very end to achieve its goals. Sefilyan urged the youth to join New Armenia to change the power in the country. "If the authorities attempt to use force, they will get an adequate response," Sefilyan said.
To recall, the constitutional referendum is scheduled for December 6. Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan will head the campaign headquarters. Levon Zurabyan, Head of the Armenian National Congress Faction, will head the "No!" Front.
