The media reports about a special operation conducted in the territory of Armenia to evacuate Israeli air force serviceman Arik Martoyan have nothing to do with the reality, the press office of the Armenian Police has told an ArmInfo correspondent.
"The Government of Israel requested the Armenian authorities to permit Martoyan to leave Armenia's territory to continue his service in the armed forces of Israel. The Armenian authorities fulfilled Israel's request and permitted Martoyan to leave the territory of the republic," says the press office of the Armenian Police.
To note, according to the media reports, on October 22 the Israeli forces evacuated the Israeli air force serviceman Arik Martoyan from Armenia. The media outlets say that Martoyan was detained 2 months ago and was deprived of the right to leave the country. Martoyan states that he renounced the Armenian citizenship long ago and that he is a citizen of Israel where he has lived since he was five years old. Moreover, he has served in the Israeli army for 2 years, he says.
"Following the detention, Martoyan applied to the Israeli consulate for help but he was denied the permit for free exit. His friends raised a wave of indignation and protest in the social networks. The Foreign Ministry and army structures started solving the problem. Israel worked out a special operation to evacuate the young man and they did it this night," the media outlets say.
