Armenia is committed to the peaceful settlement of the Nagorny Karabakh conflict, Eduard Sharmazanov, Armenian National Assembly (NA) Deputy Speaker,
Head of the Armenian Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO PA) said at the meeting with CSTO PA Executive Secretary Pyotr Ryabukhin in the RA NA Representation of Tavrichesky Palace of Saint Petersburg. The Representative of the RA National Assembly to the IPA CIS Hayk Chilingaryan also attended the meeting, the NA press-office said. Eduard Sharmazanov said Armenia, as in the CSTO Chairing Country, is ready to closely cooperate with its counterparts for implementation of the CSTO's provisions.
Touching upon the regional security problems, Eduard Sharmazanov has noted that Armenia is committed to the peaceful settlement of the NK conflict. The NA Deputy Speaker expressed his concern that last month, as a result of the ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan, the situation along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and in the Karabakh-Azerbaijani line of contact has escalated.
He said that the inflammatory policy of Azerbaijan can cause serious damage to the negotiating process. The speaker highlighted the condemnation of Azerbaijan's deconstructive position by the CSTO PA counterparts. The sides considered inadmissible the conflict settlement by force. At the end of the meeting Eduard Sharmazanov proposed to hold the joint meeting of the CSTO PA Council and the Defense Ministers of the CSTO member states in Yerevan.
