"No!" movement against Constitutional Reform will hold public hearings in the Liberty Square on Sept 10. Movement Coordinator Ara Poghosyan told a news conference on Sept 8.
He said the movement is ready to cooperate with all the public organizations, political parties and public interest groups that oppose the Constitutional Reform. In this light, he said, "No!" movement is negotiating with the "You Won't Pass It!" movement to further fight against the new Constitution. "We will join their meetings with hope that they will do the same," the activist said.
Tigran Sargsyan, a member of "No!" movement, said they will be fighting against the Constitutional Reform with legal measures, though long-term rallies and strikes as possible too. He said a group of lawyers is ready to provide legal consultations to the movement free of charge.
To recall, on August 20, the Commission for Constitutional Reforms approved the draft constitutional reforms and the rationale, and then submitted them to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan. On August 21, Serzh Sargsyan submitted the draft Constitution for consideration of the Parliament. The President held consultations with the representatives of the Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats Yerkir Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, Pan-Armenian National Movement, Free Democrats Party, Christian Democratic Union, and other forces. The Armenian National Congress and the Heritage Party rejected the invitation to attend the consultations and expressed an intention to join "No!" movement. "You Won't Pass It!" movement has already announced an intention to conduct big meeting with participation of political and public forces to discuss further steps against the Constitutional Reform.
