Given the geopolitical realities, Yerevan should abstain from abrupt anti-Russian steps, Alexander Iskandaryan, Director of the Caucasus Institute, said in Yerevan on June 22.
He said that Ukraine preferred to come athwart Russia and this caused tragic consequences. So, Yerevan should draw certain conclusions and continue the policy of complementarity. In this light, he said that when Yerevan takes steps towards the EU and these steps do not hamper the cooperation with Russia, then Yerevan's steps are right.
For his part, Ruben Mehrabyan, expert at the Armenian Center for Political and International Studies, thinks that Armenia has given up its pro-Russian policy and switched to a balanced policy because it has realized that its choice was unreasonable. According to Mehrabyan, Armenia does not realize the impact of the Ukrainian developments on the global policy. "Armenia and Ukraine are the victims of Russia's hybrid policy, so they should join efforts to resist it," he said. The expert added that the current level of the Armenian-Ukrainian relations is much lower than it could be.
