The closure of the OSCE Office in Baku is directly connected with the Karabakh conflict settlement process, says Stepan Safaryan, Head of the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs.
Safaryan thinks that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is afraid to suffer defeat. Aliyev sees signs of color revolution everywhere, therefore, he is trying to get rid of all possible opponents, including the OSCE. Safaryan thinks that by his blackmail policy the President of Azerbaijan is trying to weaken the international control to unleash a war, however, he would be unable to internationally legitimize this issue.
The expert points out that because of Aliyev the OSCE's status in Azerbaijan has never been so high as in Armenia or in any other country. Aliyev has been blaming international organizations for several years for their indifference to Azerbaijan's problems.
To recall, Baku has decided to close the OSCE Office in Baku by sending the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's letter to the OSCE head office in Vienna on June 3.
