While addressing the audience from PACE rostrum, Naria Zohrabyan, the Head of Armenian Delegation to PACE, urged to take measures against the atrocities of the Islamic State in the Middle East. According to the deputy Syrian Armenians have also become victims on ethnic and religious grounds.
"The Islamic State is an obvious threat to both regional and international security. Their atrocities resulted in the problem of refugees. This is happening both in Syria and Iraq - this is not just a humanitarian disaster. Approximately 2 million children need aid, they have no families, no homes", said Zohrabyan.
She emphasized that Syrian Armenians also suffer from the atrocities and hardships of the war. Last year The Armenians in Kessab fell victims to IS. "Armenia has already hosted more than 10.000 Armenian refugees from Syria. The refugee problem is to be solved, we need to consolidate our efforts, otherwise, the struggle against consequences will become harder", she said.
To note, Levon Zurabyan, head of Armenian National Congress faction, delivered a speech before Naira Zohrabyan. He asked for a minute of silence for the innocent victims of the Armenians Genocide. It is noteworthy that all the delegations, even the Azerbaijani one, backed Zohrabyan's appeal. The Turkish deputies were the only ones not to get on their feet
