ArmInfo. The house arrest of Artur Sargsyan, a supporter of the Sacred Struggle movement and a member of the National Assembly of the Republic from the opposition Armenia faction, has been extended for another three months. The corresponding decision was made by the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Karen Farkhoyan.
"After hearing the parties' opinions, the court concluded that the likelihood of obstruction of justice remains and has not diminished. Therefore, the measure of restraint applied against him, namely, house arrest, will be extended until February 8, 2027," the judge stated.
During the hearing, Sargsyan noted that the current situation only demonstrates the absence of justice. "This is a fabricated case. We have no motion, we are tired, and we understand that justice cannot be achieved in this room. "Therefore, I propose immediately extending the arrest for another year," the MP stated.
It should be recalled that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan launched a broad anti-church campaign in May 2025, demanding the resignation of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II. As part of this campaign, several clergy members were detained. On June 25, 18 opposition figures and supporters of the "Sacred Struggle" movement, led by the movement's leader, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, were taken into custody. They are accused of attempting to "seize power" and "terrorism." "Recordings of conversations between movement members" are cited as evidence of their guilt. Sargsyan, also a defendant in the case, was held in custody from July 9, 2025, until December 1, after which his pretrial detention was replaced by house arrest.
