ArmInfo. Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan does not consider the ministry's foreign policy efforts a failure. Moreover, he expressed confidence that these efforts have been quite successful.
Speaking at the budget hearings on November 5 in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, he stated that he considers both the negotiation process to normalize relations with Turkey and the deepening of relations with Iran and Georgia to be successful. The Foreign Minister also noted the strengthening of relations with the European Union.
In this context, Mirzoyan expressed hope for improved relations with Russia. He noted that diversification in Armenia's foreign trade is developing, but this should not impact relations with the Russian Federation. Moreover, diversification does not mean a shift in supplies from Russia to the European Union, despite the fact that the Persian Gulf countries are currently emerging as a promising export destination for Armenian goods. The Foreign Minister wondered why this hadn't happened before. Especially since the Persian Gulf region is geographically close, and logistical problems are solvable. Flowers from Armenia, for example, are now exported to 30 countries, and not only to Europe—several shipments have already been sent to Turkmenistan.
"But I certainly hope that we will be able to comprehensively discuss and, so to speak, improve our relations with our Russian partners. I hope that as a result of the negotiations, the restrictions will be lifted," the minister noted.
