ArmInfo. The searches at the homes of Strong Armenia party leader Samvel Karapetyan and Strong Armenia parliamentary faction head Narek Karapetyan may be linked to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s “proposal” to the opposition. Strong Armenia parliamentary faction secretary Tigran Abramyan stated this to journalists on November 4.
According to him, the nature of the Armenian authorities’ actions is already well known to them, and what happened merely testifies to attempts at political persecution. “If we follow Pashinyan’s latest statements, it becomes obvious that what is happening is connected with his proposal addressed to the opposition. Now we are effectively seeing what this proposal consisted of. But despite the steps being taken by the authorities, the ‘Aliyev Constitution’ will not be adopted in Armenia. We will say no to the ‘Aliyev Constitution’ and yes to Armenia’s independence,” Abramyan stated.
The parliamentary faction secretary also noted that such actions were expected, given that their political force opposed changes to Armenia’s Constitution from the outset. In general, according to him, this pattern of actions by the Armenian authorities is already familiar to them: “when faced with obstacles to implementing his programs, Pashinyan resorts to such methods.” In this regard, Abramyan recalled how the well-known events followed on June 17, 2025, after Samvel Karapetyan stated that he intended to defend the Armenian Church “our way.” “However, just as Pashinyan failed to achieve a result במסגרת his campaign against the Armenian Apostolic Church, attempts to adopt the ‘Aliyev Constitution’ will also prove unsuccessful,” the faction secretary assured.
Speaking specifically about the searches, he noted that he did not yet have detailed information. “According to the information available to me, the case is connected with enterprises affiliated with the Karapetyans. The legal team will provide more precise information later,” the politician concluded.
Let us recall that Strong Armenia party press secretary Agavni Sukiasyan reported that since early morning, investigators from Armenia’s Investigative Committee had been conducting searches at the homes of Strong Armenia bloc leader Samvel Karapetyan and Strong Armenia parliamentary faction head Narek Karapetyan. She noted that searches were also being conducted at other addresses linked to the Karapetyan family. Later, Armenian Investigative Committee press secretary Kima Avdalyan reported that searches were being conducted simultaneously at 65 addresses.
It should be added that Pashinyan previously stated that, if the parliamentary opposition opposed the adoption of a new Constitution, the ruling majority would begin to create public pressure. In addition, he noted that “the authorities may formulate such a proposal on the new Constitution for the parliamentary opposition that it will be unable to refuse.”
