ArmInfo. The Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), consisting of five judges, rejected Azerbaijan's appeal against the ECHR's ruling in favor of Armenian applicants in the case concerning the Four-Day War of April 2016. This was reported by Liparit Drmeyan, a lawyer and member of the Wings of Unity party.
"Thus, the ECHR's decision of June 18 has entered into force and will become the cornerstone for the consideration of similar current and future appeals." "Azerbaijan, which has declared at the highest level its non-recognition of the ECHR's jurisdiction and suspended cooperation with the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers, is mindful of the importance of legal procedures and files complaints when appropriate," the politician wrote on his Facebook page, announcing the court's decision.
As a reminder, the ECHR, in its June 18 ruling, ordered Azerbaijan to pay 90,000 euros in compensation to the relatives of an Armenian soldier tortured and killed during the four-day war around Artsakh. The lawsuit was filed by the parents and sister of Artsakh Defense Army Major Hayk Toroyan.
