ArmInfo. Acting President of Bulgaria Iliana Yotova and vice-presidential candidate Kiril Valchev, who won the second round of the presidential election, received 57.57% of the voters’ votes.
According to data from Bulgaria’s Central Election Commission (CEC), the counting of all votes has been completed.
Yotova and Valchev received 1 million 93 thousand 852 votes, representing 57.57%.
Former Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov and vice-presidential candidate Georgi Kandev received 750 thousand 251 votes (39.48%). Another 2.95% of voters stated that they supported none of the candidates.
In the first round of the election, in which turnout was 22.98%, the Yotova — Valchev ticket received 34.76% of the votes, while the Gyurov — Kandev ticket received 31.95%.
Yotova became president of Bulgaria in January 2026 after Rumen Radev left the post of head of state to enter parliamentary politics; in April, his party won a convincing victory in the early parliamentary election. Yotova ran with the support of Radev’s party «Progressive Bulgaria» and a number of left-wing forces. Gyurov was backed by the pro-Western parliamentary groups «Democratic Bulgaria» and «We Continue the Change».
The key issue of the campaign was attitudes toward Russia: Yotova advocated dialogue with Moscow and opposed aid to Ukraine, speaking of a «coalition for peace». Gyurov takes a pro-Western and pro-NATO position, while also criticizing the Radev government for failures in foreign policy and its inability to contain rising prices.
Upon confirmation of her election victory, Yotova will take office in January 2027. The Constitution of Bulgaria allows the president to serve no more than two five-year terms; the months during which she exercised Radev’s powers in 2026 are not counted toward this limit.
