ArmInfo. The process of unblocking the region's transport and economic ties will not only occur within the framework of the TRIPP project. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on November 2 during discussions of the draft state budget of Armenia at a joint meeting of the National Assembly committees.
According to him, the RA government has effectively begun the practical implementation of the project, initiating the commissioning of design work on roads and power lines even before the final formation of the joint company. Today, it is becoming clear that the construction of the Nrnadzor-Karchevan railway will be part of the TRIPP project. Roads and power lines are also planned for the same area. The construction of gas and oil pipelines will be the subject of future discussions.
The implementation of this project, as the head of government noted, will ensure connectivity between the "largest market" and the region. with the "largest market," that is, the connection between the West and the East, the shortest route for which is the north of Armenia. It passes through the Tavush, Lori, and Shirak regions. Obviously, Pashinyan continued, it is necessary to do everything possible to attract large investments. One of the most important tasks should be the centralization of the country's railways and roads. "Today, the northern section of our railway in the Haghartsin region is not functioning due to landslides. Its restoration requires enormous investments. And these investments can only be expected if the financial and economic investments can fit into the formula that the invested funds can be recouped. In this context, it is equally important to connect the Ijevan-Hrazdan and Vanadzor-Gyumri railway lines. The restoration of railways in the Yeraskh and Akhurik regions is also very important. Discussions are underway with Russian partners on this topic, and a decision on this issue will need to be made within the next three months. Oleg Belozerov, CEO of Russian Railways, recently visited Armenia, where working discussions were held, resulting in an agreement on a three-month period to answer the question of who will implement these investments and within what timeframe," the head of government said.
It should be noted that TRIPP (full name "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity") is a transport and energy corridor project through Armenia, linking the mainland of Azerbaijan with its exclave, Nakhchivan. The infrastructure corridor will include a railway line (Nrnadzor-Karchevan section), a road, power lines, and fiber-optic cables (oil and gas pipelines are planned for discussion later). The infrastructure remains under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of Armenia, but a joint venture, the TRIPP Development Company, is being established for development and management, with the participation of Armenia and the United States.
