ArmInfo. According to preliminary data from a study by the Yerevan Municipality's Transport Management Center, a single car parked near an intersection during rush hour causes other road users to lose an average of 61.4 minutes, while approximately 75 cars are forced to wait for the next traffic light cycle. Yerevan Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan announced this during a working meeting of the Municipality on November 2.
He also noted that if these sections of the road were free of parked cars, the waiting time would be reduced from 61.4 minutes to 17 minutes, and the number of cars waiting for the next traffic light cycle would be reduced from 75. Up to 40.
In this regard, Grigoryan presented measures to combat illegal parking that the mayor's office plans to implement, including in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD). In addition to increasing fines, increasing the number of prohibited parking areas, and increasing the number of tow trucks, a draft law is being developed that would deduct points from drivers who park near intersections, as provided by the MVD's current system.
