ArmInfo. The Russian Foreign Ministry has denied reports that Moscow has refused to approve Samvel Mkrtchyan's candidacy for the post of Armenian Ambassador to Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.
"This publication is not true," the Russian Foreign Ministry told RBC.
Earlier, the Armenian newspaper Hraparak, citing a source, reported that the Russian side refused to approve Mkrtchyan's candidacy, who previously served as Armenia's Ambassador to Poland. The publication suggested that the decision could be related to his many years of diplomatic service in European countries.
Mkrtchyan was appointed Armenia's Ambassador to Poland in November 2018. Prior to this, he headed the Armenian diplomatic mission in Lebanon, represented the country at NATO, and headed the Arms Control and International Security Department of the Armenian Foreign Ministry. After serving in Warsaw, Mkrtchyan headed the European Department of the Armenian Foreign Ministry. In April 2025, he participated in the work with the EU expert mission that arrived in Armenia as part of the visa policy dialogue.
