ArmInfo. The Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs' Cyber Police warns of an online fraud scheme spreading through the social network TikTok.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs' press service, videos and posts are appearing on TikTok offering a one-time benefit or a large cash prize, such as 300,000 drams, from a supposed "social fund" or bank. Users are prompted to quickly follow an attached link and submit an application, with those who follow the link first promised additional bonuses. The link opens a phishing page, through which the scammers extract personal and banking information, including card numbers, PINs, CVVs, and one-time SMS codes. The obtained information is used to steal funds from citizens' bank accounts.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs notes that Armenia's state and social services agencies do not collect personal or banking data through social media. "Do not click suspicious links from TikTok advertisements and messages. Do not share passwords, PINs, or SMS confirmation codes with anyone. If you encounter such dubious offers, immediately contact law enforcement," the statement notes.
