ArmInfo. If Armenia sever ties with Russia, it risks becoming ideal geopolitical prey for those who have been waiting for centuries to divide it into spheres of influence, according to journalist Dmitry Kiselev, quoted by RIA Novosti.
"The current Armenian authorities are forgetting where exactly they stand. The history of the region shows that without a Russian balancer, Armenia could quickly be divided into spheres of influence by those who have been waiting for this moment for centuries. Ideal geopolitical prey," Kiselev wrote in Max.
He believes that Armenia, which continues its demonstrative drift toward the European Union, is embarking on a dangerous path.
"A considerable amount of time will pass between the rejection of former allies and the 100% acquisition of new ones." And this isn't an assumption, but a fact based on the experience of other countries: Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia have been waiting almost five years for their turn to join the EU, as have Serbia, Albania, and Montenegro.
- 17 years, North Macedonia - 22 years, and Turkey is a record-breaking waiter, 40 years in the "friend zone" of the European "blooming garden!" Kiselev noted.
According to the journalist, Armenia is effectively heading toward the loss of its statehood. "It seems so easy when there is a state, there is a Russian military base, there is a military balance around, internally, everything is fine. But when the key component—Russia's participation in the region—is pulled out like a stool from under its feet, Armenia will find itself in a precarious position. "There will be many who want to profit from Armenia, as history shows," Kiselev added.
