ArmInfo. Azerbaijan cannot be a guarantor of peace for Armenia. Parliamentary opposition faction “Strong Armenia” leader Narek Karapetyan stated this to journalists on October 30.
According to him, the only guarantor of peace should be the regional balance of power, which is a law for the entire world. “The geopolitical balance should also be on our side, rather than directed toward our constantly following Azerbaijan’s lead, as it continually puts forward new demands. As an example, the faction leader cited the law on Trump’s route, which essentially provides a road through the Syunik region of the country, while this is happening without the conclusion of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Narek Karapetyan also emphasized that the faction would categorically oppose the project of “Aliyev’s Constitution for Armenia.” The agreement that was initialed in Washington with the participation of the United States as an intermediary and guarantor contains no conditions related to the Constitution. Nevertheless, following this event, Azerbaijan came forward with additional demands, preparing the ground for the return of Azerbaijanis and insisting on amendments to Armenia’s Constitution. At the same time, Baku approaches its actions one at a time, without resorting to package solutions, implementing its goals step by step. For this reason, Armenia has faced danger. “Azerbaijan understood that the longer it dragged out the conclusion of a peace treaty, the greater concessions it would achieve from Yerevan. Armenia, in turn, being the losing side, cannot fail to comply with these demands,” the faction leader noted.
