ArmInfo. As part of the celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of Armenia's independence, a conference entitled "Life is a Science: Hrachya Acharyan," dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the eminent Armenian scholar, linguist, and academician Hrachya Acharyan, was held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. This was reported by the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport.
The conference was attended by Deputy Head of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Virabyan, diplomatic representatives accredited to UNESCO, scholars specializing in Armenian studies, and students.
The conference was dedicated to assessing Acharyan's scholarly legacy and his significant contribution to the development of Armenian linguistics. Acharyan's research on the origins, history, dialects, and connections of the Armenian language with other languages has made a significant contribution not only to Armenian studies but also to global linguistics.
The conference was organized with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia and the initiative of the Mesrop Mashtots Museum-Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, the Matenadaran.
It should be noted that the opening of the exhibition "Hraparak and Time: From the Past to the Future," dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the founding of Republic Square, also took place the day before.
The series of events will conclude with a joint concert by the Gover State Chamber Choir and the Vahagn Hayrapetyan Trio. Jazz arrangements of Armenian folk songs will be performed.
As a reminder, last year, at the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, it was decided to include the 150th anniversary of the birth of the eminent Armenian linguist and academician Hrachya Acharyan (1876-1953), as well as the 100th anniversary of the start of construction of Yerevan's Republic Square (1927), in the UNESCO Calendar of Eminent Personalities and Important Events for 2026-2027.
