ArmInfo. Azerbaijan is not demanding that Armenia amend its constitution, but is merely refusing to sign a peace treaty until a new constitution is adopted. This is precisely the interpretation of Baku's position proposed by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during Government Hour in Parliament on October 28, attempting to shift the focus to the wording rather than the substance of the issue.
He also recalled that the government's political mission is to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan by the end of its mandate, that is, within five years, as the Prime Minister himself recently stated.
When parliamentarians asked him to clarify whether the signing of the peace treaty had been postponed, Mirzoyan demurred, noting that this was impossible since the peace had already been ratified. He called on all his friends and relatives living in border communities, as well as those who currently have a soldier in their family serving in the military, to confirm this fact.
"This peace exists and operates at such a level that there is already bilateral trade between Armenia and Azerbaijan, with cargo going through Azerbaijan to Armenia, and cargo going through Armenia to Azerbaijan," he noted.
