ArmInfo. The "School for Developing Excellence for Teachers Teaching Subjects in Russian in Armenia" has opened in Yerevan. The project is organized by Rossotrudnichestvo and the Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia.
According to the press service of the Russian House in Armenia, the participants include teachers of history, chemistry, biology, physics, physical education, music, and other subjects. In total, more than 100 subject teachers will participate in the project, who will participate in three-day classes with Russian specialists.
Opening the meeting, Maria Alimova, First Deputy Director of the RUDN University Russian Language Institute and PhD in Philology, called the project a pilot and unique one. "For the first time, it is being held specifically for teachers teaching school subjects in Russian," she emphasized. According to Maria Alimova, teaching any subject in Russian is doubly difficult, as it becomes the teacher's primary tool. The influence of students' native languages on the learning process must also be taken into account.
Mikhail Vozhdaev, Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Armenia and Representative of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science in the Republic of Armenia, emphasized the opportunity to meet with colleagues and share experiences and impressions. "I assume that many of you, being graduates of the same year, haven't seen each other for several months, even years," he noted.
Victoria Kurilenko, Head of Russian Language Department No. 5 at the Russian Language Institute at RUDN University and Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, spoke about the training program. "For three days, we'll be talking about our favorite subjects, words, and language, not from a grammar perspective, but from a perspective of how to best, most accessible, and emotionally present subject knowledge in Russian," she explained.
The first day will be devoted to universal teaching skills: creativity, critical thinking, adaptability, and the ability to build communication with students. In subsequent days, classes will be tailored to the participants' subject specializations. In addition to RUDN University faculty, winners and laureates of the All-Russian "Teacher of the Year" competition will share their experiences.
The training will conclude with a final assessment. Participants will be tested and then, in teams of 5-7, prepare small projects and demonstrate how the acquired knowledge and skills can be used in the classroom. On October 30, the teachers will present their projects and receive certificates of completion.
