ArmInfo. At its meeting on October 28, 2026, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) invalidated the registration of candidate Ester Sahakyan, who was included on the proportional list of the Civil Contract party for the snap parliamentary elections of June 7, 2026.
The CEC press service told ArmInfo that the decision was made after the MP filed a self-withdrawal notice. "The CEC invalidated the registration of candidate Ester Sahakyan, who was included on the proportional list of the Civil Contract party for the snap parliamentary elections of June 7, 2026, and who filed a self-withdrawal notice. In addition, a protocol was drawn up to transfer the mandate of the Civil Contract MP who resigned early to the next candidate on the party's electoral list, Edgar Arakelyan, the Commission summarized.
Edgar Arakelyan was previously a member of Artur Baghdasaryan's Orinats Yerkin party.
Recall that regular parliamentary elections were held in Armenia on June 7, 2026. The voter turnout was 58.97%. Nikol Pashinyan's ruling Civil Contract party, Samvel Karapetyan's Strong Armenia bloc, and second president Robert Kocharyan's Armenia bloc won seats in parliament. The remaining candidates' results fell below the required threshold of 4% for parties and 8-10% for blocs. Notably, businessman Gagik Tsarukyan's Prosperous Armenia Party lost its 4% margin of victory after the Central Election Commission adjusted preliminary vote counts for the country's parliamentary elections. As a result, the party was not included in the new parliament. It should be noted that from early morning on election day, observers and journalists reported numerous violations by the ruling party during the voting process.
