ArmInfo. During its plenary session on October 27, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia began discussions on the ratification of the Peace Council Charter, submitted by the Government of Armenia.
According to Ararat Mirzoyan, the RA Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, this international organization was established on the initiative of US President Donald Trump. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed the charter on behalf of Armenia on January 22, 2026, in Davos. Currently, the Peace Council already has 28 members. The structure's objective is to promote stability, lawful governance, and peaceful resolution in post-conflict regions. State participation in the Peace Council is limited to three years. The draft establishes mechanisms for voluntary donations. In case of non-payment of contributions to the Peace Council, the Chairman of the Council may decide to suspend the membership of a given state. To date, Armenia has not made any donations.
As a reminder, the first Chairman of the Council is US President Donald Trump, who holds exclusive power in interpreting the charter, a casting vote, and the right of dissolution. Participation is by invitation: the standard term of office for a member state is up to 3 years, with an exception for countries that made a one-time cash contribution of $1 billion or more in the first year.
