Events dedicated to Hrachya Acharian and Republic Square to be held at UNESCO headquarters

ArmInfo. As part of the celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of Armenia’s independence, anniversary events dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Armenologist, linguist and Academician Hrachya Acharyan and the 100th anniversary of the founding of Republic Square will be held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris on October 28-29.

As reported by the press service of Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MoESCS),  the program of celebrations will begin on October 28 with the opening of a conference dedicated to the outstanding Hrachya Acharyan, entitled "Life Is Science: Hrachya Acharyan," and an exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the founding of Republic Square, entitled "The Square and Time: From the Past to the Future."

The anniversary events have been organized by Armenia’s MoESCS and UNESCO. Deputy Head of Armenia’s MoESCS Tigran Virabyan will participate in the opening.

The exhibition "The Square and Time: From the Past to the Future," dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the founding of Republic Square, will run from October 28 to November 2. Around 40 photographs reflecting the history of Republic Square were selected from the archival collections of the National Archives of Armenia, the History Museum of Armenia, the Palace of Architecture of Armenia, the Armenpress news agency, and the works of individual photographers. An exhibition of costumes from the Teryan Cultural Center will complement the history of Republic Square. The series of events will conclude on October 29 with a joint concert by the Hover State Chamber Choir and the Vahagn Hayrapetyan Trio. Jazz arrangements of Armenian folk songs will be performed.

It should be recalled that last year, at the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, a decision was made to include the 150th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Armenian linguist and academician Hrachya Acharyan (1876-1953), as well as the 100th anniversary of the start of construction of Republic Square in Yerevan (1927), in the UNESCO Calendar of Anniversaries of Eminent Personalities and Important Events for 2026-2027.

The anniversary events are being held in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Armenia to UNESCO.
