Arminfo. The Anti-Corruption Court of Appeal acquitted Mamigon Aslanyan, a member of the “Strong Armenia” faction and former mayor of Vanadzor, whom investigators had charged with abuse of official powers in the process of privatizing land plots.
“Minutes ago, the Anti-Corruption Court of Appeal made an unexpected decision regarding me. It found me not guilty and acquitted me under the article for which I was kept in prison for 2 years and 7 months. With regard to the other episodes related to the land, it applied the statute of limitations and terminated the case,” Maikonyan said live on his Facebook page.
He added that he currently has mixed feelings, since part of a case that had lasted nearly five years has received a partial logical resolution and justice has prevailed.
On January 29, 2025, the Anti-Corruption Court sentenced former Vanadzor mayor Mamigon Aslanyan to 4 years and 4 months in prison. He was accused of exceeding his official powers and official forgery during the period from 2016 to 2021, which the politician’s defense regarded as political persecution. However, taking into account the time spent in detention, Aslanyan was sentenced to 1 year and 9 months in prison, as well as a fine of 500,000 drams. He was also banned from holding positions in the state and community service system for three years. Aslanyan was specifically charged with committing numerous schemes and abusing his official powers in the process of privatizing land plots. He pleaded not guilty and appealed the court’s decision.
