ArmInfo. The results of the local government elections held on October 25 in 19 communities of Armenia once again proved that Nikol Pashinyan is strong in terms of electoral fraud, but weak against Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. This was stated in a statement by Samvel Karapetyan's Strong Armenia party.
Karapetyan's party noted that the results of these elections once again confirmed that the Civil Contract Party has become a force burying democracy in Armenia.
"Our candidate in Stepanavan knew he could be arrested, but, realizing this danger, decided to run because Armenia needs democracy." "Failing to learn the lessons of the latest PACE report, which highlighted the widespread electoral violations committed by the ruling party during the June parliamentary elections, the Civil Contract party acted according to the same principle in the local elections," the opposition party noted.
Strong Armenia emphasized that the arrests of political opponents, the arrests of opposition council members on election day, the spread of a climate of fear, targeted voting at polling stations, the allocation of huge funds from the state budget to prepare for the community elections, the promise of ruling party representatives to provide citizens with apartments, and other steps demonstrate only one thing: the Civil Contract party cannot win fair elections in Armenia.
Strong Armenia They expressed their conviction that the struggle for democracy and peace without compromise will end in victory, but acknowledged that this victory cannot be achieved in a matter of months.
"Today, more than ever, we must unite as a nation and fight together for peace without compromise. 'Strong Armenia' is a strong alternative to the Pashinyan government, so we will continue to work and implement socio-economic development programs in Stepanavan and other communities. We will continue to act in the interests of our people and are confident that we will have a strong Armenia," the political force concluded.
It should be noted that local government elections were held in several communities across Armenia on October 25. The elections were characterized by a lack of competition and pressure on opposition forces. Moreover, opposition forces complained that tens of thousands of Armenian citizens were deprived of their voting rights because they travel abroad for seasonal work.
