ArmInfo. Law enforcement agencies in Armenia received 54 reports of possible violations during the local government elections, all of which have been investigated. Armenian Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan announced this in a conversation with journalists in parliament on October 26.
She clarified that 10 of these reports have so far been processed as crime reports. According to Sargsyan, the reports primarily concerned violations of the secrecy of the ballot and cases of duplicate voting. "One report concerned bribery, which is subject to investigation because
it was based on a citizen's complaint. We will review all the reports again. We will also review reports of possible violations circulated in the media. The reports came from citizens, the opposition, government officials, media outlets, observers, and trusted individuals. "It makes no difference to us who provides such information: if there is information about such incidents, they must all be investigated," the Minister of Internal Affairs assured.
When asked whether Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's call for citizens to report violations during local government elections by email means that the law enforcement system, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, is failing to cope with this work, the Minister replied in the negative. "That is not the case. The Prime Minister of Armenia simply presented his position on this issue and provided citizens with an additional opportunity to report individual incidents. It is logical that if the Prime Minister receives such reports, they will subsequently be forwarded to law enforcement agencies," the Minister noted.
As a reminder, local government elections were held in several communities across Armenia on October 25. The elections were characterized by a lack of competition and pressure on opposition forces. Moreover, opposition forces complained that tens of thousands of Armenian citizens were deprived of their voting rights because they travel abroad for seasonal work.
