ArmInfo. On October 26, the first meeting of the parliamentary investigative committee will take place. The committee is investigating the crisis that arose in the church as a result of the actions of several clergy of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church and, as a result, the failure to fulfill the exclusive mission of the AAC in the spiritual life of the Armenian people, the development of their national culture, and the preservation of their national identity. This was stated in a statement by the press service of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
By its decision of October 2, the Parliament of Armenia created a special investigative committee to study the crisis in the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church. Arman Yeghoyan, an MP from the ruling Civil Contract faction, has been appointed chairman of the committee. The opposition factions Armenia and Strong Armenia called the creation of the committee unconstitutional and announced a boycott of its work. The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin views the actions of the authorities and the established commission as illegal, unconstitutional, and a direct interference of the state in the internal affairs of the Church.
The commission's creation was prompted by the publication in September 2026 of a report by the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia, "On the Crisis that Has Arised in the Armenian Apostolic Church as a Result of the Actions of the De facto Leader of the Church and Several High-Ranking Clergy, and Ways to Resolve It."
